Welcome to my surfing forum.
I don't mind politics. I don't mind random off topic conversations. Just be civil and pretend that the person who you are addressing is somebody that you might be paddling out with tomorrow. Let's have fun and use this as a place that somewhere you can escape to and just talk about surfing.
Thanks for stopping by.

Re: surf the next 3 days....

November 7, 2009 by mofo

From Wetsand today:

The current ETA for this swell is pretty much on track from my last report, with just a few minor tweaks in timing. Some minor swell should start to trickle in on Friday, but still weak overall, and more noticeable for areas north ofOC. On Saturday the 7th, the swell should fill in more, but moving from north to south; the SB/VC area should be the first to start seeing some sets out of this, perhaps mid morning or so, and then areas farther south seeing swell some hours thereafter, perhaps not hitting SD until mid afternoon. Sunday the 8th should then be the full-impact day in SoCal, with size slowly backing down Monday, more so though Tuesday the 10th into Wednesday the 11th (Veterans Day).

VC, I will add ya as well as posting my link later today when I get home. Sorry we didn't catch up last weekend, no worries life happens bro. Lemme know next time you can hang.
We be doing the Rusted Root show tonight at the Canyon Club if you can make it....

Where the hell is Shredster?

BTW... all you lurkers, POST UP! It's funny, I can see that there are dozens of peeps that stop by, review some posts, then bounce without posting. Feel free to create some topics people. It's YOUR forum, I just pay the bills. grin

If you have something or anything to say, it's a cool place to say it. You can see by the amount of hits we get, there are a LOT of people who check this forum and then move on without posting anything. I also talk to a lot of "industry" people who say they check out this forum on a regular basis. Kinda funny because I just created this as a place to figure out who and when I'm meeting for a surf and I wound up creating some new friends.

We need a verge soon. A real one.... stop lurking, start posting! devil

Wow... ESA decides to bail out of Surfing America....

November 4, 2009 by mofo

On behalf of Eastern Surfing Association, attached is their most recent press release.

Highlights:

  • Eastern Surfing Association, the 10,000 member governing body of amateur surfing for the East Coast of the United States, today announced their immediate withdrawal from Surfing America in an October 2009 Board of Directors vote.
  • While the Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) continues to support their members who participate in Surfing America events, the secrecy with which Surfing America instilled the Surfing America Prime Series, without the input of the ESA, led to a majority vote to leave the national governing body of surfing.
  • “Surfing America’s refusal to create an amateur surfing committee that included the ESA, which is in direct opposition to their stated organizational founding, created an unprecedented event that resulted in the rescinding of our inclusion in Surfing America,” stated Debbie Hodges, executive director of the Eastern Surfing Association.
  • Surfing America’s continued refusal to provide ESA a voting stake, or input, with regards to the Surfing America Prime Series and other Surfing America-sanctioned competitions, resulted in the Board of Directors voting to remove support, contributions, and infrastructure to all aspects of Surfing America.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Eastern Surfing Association Board Of Directors Votes To Leave Surfing America

Lack of communication and deviation from bylaws contributes to disillusion of Surfing America by co-founder and world’s largest amateur surfing association

Virginia Beach, VA — November 4, 2009 — Eastern Surfing Association®, the 10,000 member governing body of amateur surfing for the East Coast of the United States, today announced their immediate withdrawal from Surfing America in an October 2009 Board of Directors vote. While the Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) continues to support their members who participate in Surfing America events, the secrecy with which Surfing America instilled the Surfing America Prime Series, without the input of the ESA, led to a majority vote to leave the national governing body of surfing. In contrast to the bylaws that govern Surfing America, the ESA had no input in the conception, creation, and execution of the Surfing America Prime events- three of which are being held on the East Coast of the United States.

“Surfing America’s refusal to create an amateur surfing committee that included the ESA, which is in direct opposition to their stated organizational founding, created an unprecedented event that resulted in the rescinding of our inclusion in Surfing America,” stated Debbie Hodges, executive director of the Eastern Surfing Association. “While we would prefer to continue our involvement, the gall and lack of transparency demonstrated by Surfing America left our Board of Directors little choice in this matter.”

Surfing America’s continued refusal to provide ESA a voting stake, or input, with regards to the Surfing America Prime Series and other Surfing America-sanctioned competitions, resulted in the Board of Directors voting to remove support, contributions, and infrastructure to all aspects of Surfing America.

“As a founding member of Surfing America in 2004 our decision is not a knee-jerk reaction, nor is it one taken without significance,” stated Hodges. “The ESA believes in the foundation of a governing body for amateur surfing that is inclusive, credible and provides standards for amateurs of all ages across the nation- values that founded Surfing America. Their desire to voluntarily act in bold disregard to our involvement does not support the reasons which led ESA to co-found Surfing America and therefore, we can no longer be associated with their actions moving forward.”

Re: That's a Shame...........

November 4, 2009 by mofo

It will be some good size... if you are in the right place. Wow... I just checked out one spot that was claiming 26feet at 17 sec (with a shading for "better sets" that stated 39 feet!!! WTF???) for Saturday afternoon. A very well known spot. Looks like Malzoo will be nipple high at best.

Dude.... 39 foot sets. That sure wouldn't be face hight, would it?

Screw it, somebody turn on the hype machine. grin

Re: Surfboard Tracker- SBT is what it is called....

November 4, 2009 by mofo

Hmmm.. you know the new surfshop you are refereing to will have racks and racks of "off the rack" surfboards.
Did you look at the website? It's the size of a grain of rice and it goes deep into the foam when being shaped. Nobody knows it's there.
Oh, and all but one of my boards (my MSG that my buddies bought me years ago at my bach party) have been shaped for me. I have a nice handfull of boards at home. However, there have been plenty of times when I have been up at the Ventura Surf Shop checking out the stock Bonzers (they have more than anybody I think) I have thought once or twice about picking up a board from the floor. I've seen perfecet dimensions on a stock board before... even glassed by Moonlight and all.

I'm not sure if you went to the actual website to check this out.... not arguing, just offering my POV. wink

I can't wait for this weekend. I can't believe nobody has started "The Hype Thread" for this swell yet. grin

Re: Surfboard Tracker- SBT is what it is called....

Didn't say it was a lojack type product (I think, lol). It can be used to identify which board is yours. Oh, and you don't recall the fake KG fishes that showed up everywhere a couple of years ago? That was a major problem and it caused them a lot of pain. The market suddenly became flooded with fake KG fishes from China. Wouldn't it be a lot cooler if you could have the shop scan it for you to prove the authenticity of the board? And you really think that there are shops out there that would turn down a smokin deal on 5 or 6 new CI boards at a great wholesale price? And those boards just happen to look great, yet are fakes? It happens way more than you think, man.
