What brand protein shake?
I do the specialized super absorbing protein BS after I surf to help my muscles recover... but i'll usually have a hard boiled egg or two before along with some fruit or breakfast bar.
This is the specialized patent pending BS I often eat before I surf:
Access bars and drinks include the first and only patented fat
conversion formula that delivers enhanced workouts to help burn body
fat.
Why Is That Important?
You can take Access on an empty stomach 15 minutes before exercising to help:
- Naturally block the energy-sapping effects of adenosine
- Muscles use less sugar and more stored fat for energy
- Give you endurance with less fatigue and soreness
- Turn fat into fuel
The patented technology in Access was developed by Larry Wang, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the University of Alberta and world-renowned authority on fat metabolism. He discovered that during exercise the body produces adenosine, which slows fat burning and promotes the fatigue, muscle burn, and soreness associated with lactic acid buildup. Access helps block adenosine so you can more easily convert fat into fuel.
Access has been successfully used by a number of world-class athletes including Tammy Van Wisse, record-breaking marathon swimmer.
This is what I often will eat after:
ProFlex bars and shakes helps you build muscle, recover quickly, and
absorb the nutrients with a proprietary blend of 4 proteins, 3
antioxidants, 2 enzymes, and fiber.
Why Is That Important?
Only ProFlex helps you BUILD muscle with a proprietary blend of four
diverse proteins that provide the essential amino acids your body needs
to build lean muscle. ProFlex helps you RECOVER with a unique mix of
vitamins C and E, plus lipoic acid for powerful antioxidant protection.
ProFlex helps your body ABSORB the protein with a special blend of two
plant-based enzymes that help break down the protein quickly. Plus,
ProFlex also includes fiber to aid digestive comfort.
It Works Because…
Protein is the basic building block of all muscle. It is essential for
the proper growth and maintenance of everything from muscles and skin
to hair and fingernails. Everyone concerned about wellness needs to be
aware of his or her protein intake. ProFlex delivers the diverse blend
of protein your muscles need every day—all without the fat and
cholesterol found in many typical foods used as protein sources.

Climategate: E-mail Scandal Could Melt Copenhagen Plans
The release of thousands of e-mails and documents from a climate research center threatens to expose some of the biggest scientific names in the global warming debate to serious charges of fraud, unethical attacks on colleagues, censorship of opposing viewpoints, and possible criminal destruction and withholding of evidence.
I think believing these scientists about man-made global warming is insane.
Where the fuck is Speedfreak?? He's the one who got me to be skeptical about this shit in the first place. It's too bad he had such a lame neocon foreign policy.

Hmm sounds interesting. Do they talk about the situation over in Fiji?
Fiji Water: Spin the Bottle
Obama sips it. Paris Hilton loves it. Mary J. Blige won't sing without it. How did a plastic water bottle, imported from a military dictatorship thousands of miles away, become the epitome of cool?
THE INTERNET CAFÉ in the Fijian capital, Suva, was usually open all night long. Dimly lit, with rows of sleek, modern terminals, the place was packed at all hours with teenage boys playing boisterous rounds of video games. But one day soon after I arrived, the staff told me they now had to shut down by 5 p.m. Police orders, they shrugged: The country's military junta had declared martial law a few days before, and things were a bit tense.
I sat down and sent out a few emails—filling friends in on my visit
to the Fiji Water bottling plant, forwarding a story about foreign
journalists being kicked off the island. Then my connection died. "It
will just be a few minutes," one of the clerks said.
Moments later, a pair of police officers walked in. They headed for
a woman at another terminal; I turned to my screen to compose a note
about how cops were even showing up in the Internet cafés. Then I saw
them coming toward me. "We're going to take you in for questioning
about the emails you've been writing," they said.
What followed, in a windowless room at the main police station, felt
like a bad cop movie. "Who are you really?" the bespectacled inspector
wearing a khaki uniform and a smug grin asked me over and over, as if
my passport, press credentials, and stacks of notes about Fiji Water
weren't sufficient clues to my identity. (My iPod,
he surmised tensely, was "good for transmitting information.") I asked
him to call my editors, even a UN official who could vouch for me.
"Shut up!" he snapped. He rifled through my bags, read my notebooks and
emails. "I'd hate to see a young lady like you go into a jail full of
men," he averred, smiling grimly. "You know what happened to women
during the 2000 coup, don't you?"
Eventually, it dawned on me that his concern wasn't just with my
potentially seditious emails; he was worried that my reporting would
taint the Fiji Water brand. "Who do you work for, another water
company? It would be good to come here and try to take away Fiji
Water's business, wouldn't it?" Then he switched tacks and offered to
protect me—from other Fijian officials, who he said would soon be after
me—by letting me go so I could leave the country. I walked out into the
muggy morning, hid in a stairwell, and called a Fijian friend. Within
minutes, a US Embassy van was speeding toward me on the seawall.
Until that day, I hadn't fully appreciated the paranoia of Fiji's
military regime. The junta had been declared unconstitutional the
previous week by the country's second highest court; in response it had
abolished the judiciary, banned unauthorized public gatherings, delayed
elections until 2014, and clamped down on the media. (Only the
"journalism of hope" is now permitted.) The prime minister, Commodore
Frank Bainimarama, promised to root out corruption and bring democracy
to a country that has seen four coups in the past 25 years; the
government said it will start working on a new constitution in 2012.
The slogan on Fiji Water's website—"And
remember this—we saved you a trip to Fiji"—suddenly felt like a dark
joke. Every day, more soldiers showed up on the streets. When I called
the courthouse, not a single official would give me his name. Even tour
guides were running scared—one told me that one of his colleagues had
been picked up and beaten for talking politics with tourists. When I
later asked Fiji Water spokesman Rob Six what the company thought of
all this, he said the policy was not to comment on the government
"unless something really affects us."
...
Nowhere in Fiji Water's glossy marketing materials will you find
reference to the typhoid outbreaks that plague Fijians because of the
island's faulty water supplies; the corporate entities that Fiji Water
has—despite the owners' talk of financial transparency—set up in tax
havens like the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg; or the fact that its
signature bottle is made from Chinese plastic in a diesel-fueled plant
and hauled thousands of miles to its ecoconscious consumers. And, of
course, you won't find mention of the military junta for which Fiji
Water is a major source of global recognition and legitimacy. (Gilmour
has described the square bottles as "little ambassadors" for the
poverty-stricken nation.)

Well good news for those with obligations on t-day (as well as those in the islands i'm sure...) the swell is hitting friday. Sorry for those in CA who were hoping for an epic empty session thursday, but you get to share it with the rest of us on friday

I really dunno what feedbag is talking about, to be honest. The last 8 years we have experienced global cooling.
I'm tired of these frauds supporting establishment climate change science, but their days are numbered.
Hadley CRU hacked with release of hundreds of docs and emails
The University of East Anglia's Hadley Climatic Research Centre appears to have suffered a security breach earlier today, when an unknown hacker apparently downloaded 1079 e-mails and 72 documents of various types and published them to an anonymous FTP server. These files appear to contain highly sensitive information that, if genuine, could prove extremely embarrassing to the authors of the e-mails involved. Those authors include some of the most celebrated names among proponents of the theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).
(More..)
From the e-mails:
"I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to
each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961
for Keith's to hide the decline. Mike's series got
the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept
for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the
estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global
estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998."
Anybody ditching the fam for the Thanksgiving swell?
November 19, 2009 by surfbeachsighting
Not sure yet, timing of the swell is not dialed in yet but it looks like the biggest of the forerunners may end up hitting during the evening session on Thanksgiving.. and it's looking like a big, clean, lined up west. I'll bet the conditions will be good, too. They always are. dunno that there will be any significant swell in the morning.. Friday morning will be good, but it's going to be PACKED...
I'm going to be in San Bernadino County.. but I'll be driving back that night to pickup the crowded leftovers the next morning.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ![]()
The only thing I can hope for is that the swell doesn't hit until Thursday night so I'm not so antsy while I'm spending time with the family.. but that's a messed up way to think. This sucks.

Wouldn't you know it..the US has a patent on medical marijuana cannabinoids.. wtffucksickle ![]()
The Health and Human Services Division of the federal government holds a patent for medical marijuana. The patent, "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants", issued October 2003[133] reads: "Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia…"[168]

Whatever helps you boost your energy levels that isn't filled with a bunch of caffeine is probably good, but I'd definitely shop around and try different brands and different kinds of protein to see what works best.
Personally I wouldn't drink too many of those crazy muscle building shakes, either.. I mean, like, you should probably only have 3 or 4 shakes per week max..but there are probably other brands or other types of protein that might be safer to consume every day, perhaps a hemp protein shake.

The swell is a bit steep even for c st... it will be fun there for sure, probably 5-7+ at the peak of the swell, but certain spots south of there will be SIGNIFICANTLY bigger.
Re: That's a Shame...........
November 6, 2009 by surfbeachsighting
Hah, it's fun to watch models freak out, but I wouldn't be surprised if that spot picked up some 20+ footers on the biggest sets.
Re: That's a Shame...........
November 4, 2009 by surfbeachsighting
Well anywhere that can pick up steep NW swell is going to be really big.. but the swell peaks in the afternoon and we may have to deal with some crazy winds so getting the peak of this swell with clean conditions may be a bit tricky. I think the northerly half of so cal is going to get a pretty good amount of west as well, filling in some of the spots blocked by point c or the c. islands.. the southerly half of so cal (specifically parts of OC) will be a bit more spotty depending on island blockage, but I'm sure guessing there will be somesurf filling in everywhere since it is coming in from many different angles, mostly NW and some from the W (though less direct W as you go south)
The mid-day high tides means morning session, spend time with the family, eat, nap, evening session ![]()
So the winds may be an issue, blowing probably 30 mph from the NW out on the open ocean saturday afternoon when the swell is supposed to peak, but we should get some protection as So Cal is a giant cove protected by NW winds.
Medium tide morning and medium to low tide evening.. I have a pretty good idea the spots I'll be surfing this weekend.
That's a Shame...........

Ratboy didn't make it past his heat today at the Coldwater Classic up at steamer lane.. He got way more waves than anybody and they looked lined up when he was dropping in, but for some reason they kept mushing out on him and he couldn't put together a high enough scoring ride..
Do you have any idea how huge and epic it's going to be friday evening and saturday up there?!
Ratboy could dominate his home spot in big conditions..
You can watch live here:
http://www.oneill.com/cwc/california
They might end up at Waddell Creek for the next day or two cause of the small surf.. the high tide has been killing it at the lane, but the low tide evening session today was pretty good. Saturday is going to be huge, they are talking about the possibility of tow-in.

Maldives - Not Threatened by Rising Sea Level, Yet Deluged by Enviro-Corruption
http://redstateeclectic.typepad.com/redstate_commentary/
I remember, in the 1970s and 1980s concern for the Third World was all the rage. The West felt guilty of causing backwardness on the world's "periphery". However, the main "remedies," socialism and foreign aid, have proved counterproductive and lost credibility. The international statists mutated into environmentalists, losing interest in the Third World. Indeed, they are now aggressively promoting policies that will cause the arrest of economic growth and development and thus bring about widespread poverty and death in the Third World. "So what. Our green planet is more important."
In the meantime, governments in the Third World have found ways to milk money taking advantage of the going environmentalist fads.
Consider the observations by Professor Niels-Axel Mörner, a leading world authority on sea levels and coastal erosion who
headed the Department of Paleogeophysics & Geodynamics at Stockholm
University.
The Maldives like other low-lying areas have been condemned by IPCC to become flooded in 50-100 years. The INQUA Commission on Sea Level Changes and Coastal Evolution (the international organisation that hosts the true world specialists on sea level changes) have studied the actual sea level changes in the Maldives and hope to be able to extend the studies to other parts of SE Asia. Our findings reveal that there is no reality behind the scenario of a recent future flooding. The sea level has not been rising in the Maldives in the last centuries and at around 1970 it even experienced a significant lowering. The models of IPCC are simply over-ruled by the theory and observation by sea level specialists within INQUA. We should all be happy about this, one would assume. This is not the case, however. The government of the Maldives has put much prestige in the fear of a future flooding, accusing the west of having caused this situation and demanding them to pay for it. Without a flooding scenario, they now fear that international aid might be cancelled. In this situation, our scientific studies in the Maldives are regarded as anti-governmental and we are now working under very complicated conditions. For the people of the Maldives it is a great relief not to live under a constant threat that all will be gone in one or two generations. For science it is necessary to be able to go on recording the true story and not having to rely on absurd models not anchored in field observations. For a poor country like the Maldives they should always be entitled to become assisted by countries in the west. Furthermore, a coastal country like the Maldives is always threatened by coastal events (storms, hurricanes, tsunamis, etc) that may have disastrous effects on a short-term scale.
(Emphasis added, G.T.)
The source.
Also, make sure to read his Open Letter to President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, in which he responds to the Maldivian government's undersea Cabinet meeting
which was spectacularly held to raise awareness of the idea that global
sea level is rising and hence threatens to drown the Maldives.
For a broader context, consult my post on Epistemic Consequences of Totalitarian Democracy.

How is England giving heroin to heroin addicts not government intervention? But if it is working I am all for it.
-brye
You're right, the government shouldn't be giving away heroin, but the reason why addicts in England cannot afford the heroin themselves is because it is illegal and that drives up the cost significantly. This means the addicts have to commit crimes to support their habit, so instead the government has created an alternative to more closely replicate what it would be like in the free market where addicts could support their habits inexpensively... in this case, free, which does more closely replicate what they would be spending if it were legal. The shitty thing about heroin is that it destroys your red blood cells, and so after it is done making you feel all good, you suddenly feel ill..literally sick to your stomach... and you want more heroin.. so you do it some more so you stop being sick and it works magnificently.. except it is destroying more red blood cells, so the next time you come down your illness is worse and it lasts even longer... so you do more heroin and the cycle repeats. Basically turning your blood into water. That's why legalizing would bring about a shift to opium, because people could grow the white china here in the states and have some nice opium, and it would be cheap... it's really nice and the side effects are relatively few, though addiction is greater than cannabis. Right now opium is very rarely available even though quite a few people would buy it occasionally if they could. Heroin is more available because it is easier to import as it is much more potent and costs more $/lb.
So if more people were doing opium, they would get addicted, in a sense, but they wouldn't become ill when they quit so they would be less likely to hurt other people or commit crimes. They wouldn't have to do it in dens, so it would be more recreational, maybe more of an evening thing like cannabis is for many.
Heroin is literally a weapon. Those who control our government are using it against people in our inner cities, just like they did when the CIA was importing cocaine and selling it to thugs on the streets of Compton. The CIA was taking the proceeds from the drug sales and buying weapons for paramilitaries in South America that supported our corporate and oil interests. The Mujahadeen used heroin against Russia in the 80s and now the Taliban is using it against U.S. soldiers.
"The Taliban isn't just using heroin as a cash crop, they're also using
it as a weapon. They're hoping to cripple U.S. forces by getting them
hooked on cheap drugs, a strategy that the mujahideen employed against
the Soviets in the 80s. Now Russia consumes more heroin than any other nation."
