Not for me though!!!! If I want to talk to My shaper I just normally go up the street and talk to him...
and he seems to be fairly well know ....as are his boards... he shaped my last board, and will probably do my next one..I usually drop in the shaping bay to watch.... My name is on the stringer along with the unique dims and the serial no... My boards aren't very much "Just like" everybody else's boards so it does me little good to pay extra for this service... for my tricked out quad Long Boards.. Oh Yea! By the way My shaper is Gary Linden.....
If the board(s) of mine get stolen,.. it is probably because I did something really stupid!!!!And if they show up locally they will be found easily as these are known for being unique...(Solid balsa rails etc.)
I am also of the "Old School" and I never re-sell any of my boards... I give them away as gifts...
You all worry far too much about merchandising the heart and the Soul of your Surfing...
Oh well,... the tide should be dropping out now, and if the wind hasn't killed it I'm heading to my fav reef,... maybe I see ya out there1

I was wondering the same thing too! Saw more strange faces that I've never seen before since saturday than I ever want to see...
Dunno but Think where I surfed was better yesterday than today!!! most spots getting Mushy!!!!
It was funny to see a bunch of strange faces going to some of the familliar No. Co. breaks that were totally closed out this morning..and watching these "Dorks" paddle out anyway.. it was as if Sean Collins had personally told them to surf there and BY God they were gonna surf there cause Sean told them to!
These were the same Dipshits who were sitting off on the inside as the swell was building on Sat. yelling shit like,..... "Hey,.... Didn't You see me sitting inside here! What were you going to do run over me????" Answer,.... Next time YES Stupid!!!!!

I went to the website... And I'm even less convinced than ever...Bad sales pitches offend me more than a mediocre idea....But the whole Point of trying to sell the "Implant" somewhat based on the notion that somebody got their favorite Al (Swarmie's Surfclub) Merick surfboard stolen 15 years ago.. and if this would have had the chip he could have good Old Al shape another one,... Makes as much sense to me as for me to say that If I had had the "Implant" in my old 1958 Jacobs/Velzy when it went away in 1962 I could have them boys shape me a new one and I would not be out $15K today....And Yes That was My favorite board for 4 years... Hell It was my only board for 4 years...
I guess I'm just seeing this as another un needed thing that has a potential for abuse...Worse case is that all Mfg's. adopt the chip/implants as a registration system which in the end ends up being like another license plate and registration as an extra tax on our surfboards....
I probably just take these things waaay to far afield,...And If you would feel better by having one installed in your board,.... By all means get one installed... I notice that a lot of people get alarm systems installed in their cars,... and then don't pay any attention to them.... as if they are there only to annoy the people around where ever they left the car parked... Lest I Digress!

No I don't think I missed anything,...
I understand that you and others are trying to bring along a new item to the "Icing" of the sales of surfboards.... But,... If you only buy custom boards, and don't buy off the rack from sellers like K-5 or Sun-Diego, or Cosco,,, you already know the source of your board...Your name and dims on the stringer can be checked out by any potential buyer of your board from the origional source....
So it still goes back to only having semi- value if somebody underwrites the "Tracker" and they go into
Off the Rack, (More) mass produced non custom boards...
I dunno' but I believe that we all deserve custom boards that are built to our own style of riding and eccentric quirks. Rather than adapting to riding somebody else's, Cookie cutter surfboard,.. It just seems Lame to me when surfing has always been about the persuit of the personal expression...
I don't know what one of these "Tracker's" will cost,... but I'm betting that I could get a Sweet color, or a tricked out Tailblock that would ID the board for the same $$....
However,.. As always, this is just My opinion and you should (and will) make your own decision about whether to have this device installed...

A good custom board has your name on the stringer along with the dims and the shapers name...
All my boards are hand shaped and haven't seen a cnc. so it would be pointless to pay for this little extra....
I will wish the guy some good luck,... but I would rather see hand shapers make it in the current market than the cnc (mass) shapers as ( my opinion is) just one step above the POP-OUT! You can agree or not it is just an opinion....
Frankly I am personally more excited about the re-opening of the old Longboard Grotto Bldg. in my area.... and the fact that it will be The Surfshop for Moonlight Glassing!!!! No more trips to San Marcos!!!!

Good to see Ya MO! Glad that all is well with Ya! Happy you got a Pintail K Board... Pins have been the primary board of choice for me now for about 20 years... You gotta' love the way they will sweep a turn and hang on to a steep hollow wall...

Hope that you got some today...
I checked early at "Secret's" and my old neighborhood,.. but the tide had them swamped out... looked as if potential.... had to wait out some "Honey Do's" the wife set up! waited and waited for NO Shows!!!! I'm seriously Pissed! I figgure the guy's supposed to show to do the work at my house were surfers and went for a Paddle.. but didn't call me to say they weren't showing....( If so they are Dicks!)
They could have called and said Sick or Surfday....

Sorry bout the Lobster pots! Normal Hazard this time of year.. Not bad If you can use a float to hold line up with though.... That "Spot" near the Power plant,... I had heard was a mush bomb! but that might have been at a different time in the tide....
I'm chasing secret (get it) Secret Reef's in the Morning...will post my finding the afternoon....

Sad situation... Lots of folks here in Oceanside from the Samoan community.. and many have lost family.. Many are still trying to get in touch with some of their family to see what happened... Bad all the way around... I heard the wave hit Hawaii so fast that the system there could not react!!! That is BAD! I know that the sirens there have gone off for a test and freaked me right out of my shorts if you been smokin' the pako lolo and not expectin' it!

Not much going for surf right now... hit it early and get out before the tide....Weird too... water is warm but air is cold....
Next weekend is "Sacred Craft"....Dick Brewer is supposed to be in the area sometime tonight...
Guess they are throwing a Birthday bash for him in Solana Beach tomorrow night...but he is shaping at "Sacred Craft" Del Mar... I'm going to miss it as I have to be in LA for a previous arangement...
But I know where Brewer will be tomorrow, and will go see him to shoot the shit...

Interesting to see/ hear that some of the S.U.P. folks up yer way were stuck outside... I'm beginning to understand why after some of the stuff I've overheard over the last few weeks working down at the beach...
Mostly from folks that are taking up S.U.P. with NO previous surfing experience......Only some small ammount of skateboarding,.. and that this IS The "THING" to do....
This shit truely worries me!

You got that right! North county, every wave face was like trying to ride 3 faces at once...
I stuck to the sandbars in O'side and found them at best challenging...
I'll prolly go tomorrow but early and to the most protected reef I can find.. for prolly just an hour at most... At least the water is still warm....

Yea,.. I know what you mean,.... I've taken a cupla' trips lately to the Ambrose shop (Just up the street from my house) to take a look at some of the boards that got back from Moonlight, and speculating just when I can put in an order for another custom from him... Of course my wife has to chime in with,..."You know the Deal,....You want a new board You have to get rid of one that you already have!"
Well that JUST SUCKS! ALL of MY LBs are MY favs!!!

Weird!!! because the origional rumor of the crash had to do with C.I.A. Heroin deals gone bad and that there was supposed to be some stashed on that flight...Also something ending up to do with a (Some what ) covered up shoot out outside the gates of C.I. A... American deals gone bad,.. fell down in Scotland...Now an opportunity to trade for OYL,.... Go figgure????

If you are stayin' at San Clemente State park,... when you get there walk out to the bluff,..look out and down to your left,...(South) you will see a point that should be breaking about 1 mile south... that is the famous Cottons Pt... that is the northern most end of the San Onofre/ Trestles stretch....
If you look to your right (North) you will see a pier San Clemente pier.. there are several good breaks between the pier and the park..one of them is T street.. (Trafalgar street)...
Clue,... Don't guage California much by LA.. and if you can help it dont call the state "Cali" it's too Ghetto, and tends to be used mostly by folks who are neubs or from out of state... Kind of like calling San Fransisco "Frisco"... Loc's will immediately know you ain't from there...

To me - I dont see much a difference in lineup etiquette or skill from LB's to SUP's[image] same issues - skilled guys = no worries, guys who want to wave hog = same on LB or SUP, guys who have no skill = same bailing board, no duck dive, or going straight issues....

Buffalo is a pretty impressive guy! and was a very powerfull LBer... There is a bit of film of him when he was Lifeguard at Makaha swimming out to the lineup with two garbage bags... he then inflates them
and takes off on a set wave riding the bags all the way into the "Infamous" backwash shorebreak.. it's a film from the 70's called "Red Hot Blue" by Curt Mastalka... trippy surf film visually stunning...

I tried to go back to work on Mon and lasted till about 10 a:m then fell apart and had to go home,... slept most all day Tues.. so went back to my Dr. today and it turns out that I have Pneumonia... I never did have a Flu,.. just a cold that went terribly bad... So now I'm on new meds and just have to ride it out...No work,...No Surf....

Yea,... Got pretty spoiled all the years that I lived there...All I had do was just walk to the end of the street , check it out,...down some stairs and paddle out... Switch boards,... No problem!!!!
Only thing about here is there is NO channel out and when the reef gets exposed,.. it is a Nasty place...

Ah Man! Lucky You!
Love it when it set up like that........Still Home Babysitting a sick wife and Myself not quite up to snuff Myself... Caught some "BUG" last week.. that knocked the shit outta' me.. only thing that seems kinda' positive from test results is that it ain't Swine flu.. but now I find that the test aren't all that accurate... I was so out of it on Thursday night I almost went to hospital,... I was Halucinating so badly, and yo yo ing my temp...Now I'm just coughing my lungs out...
I hope NOBODY gets this one... it sucks!!! My wife came down with it right after me and and two sick is pretty bad... I can only immagine if you have whole households down at the same time,... people could DIE!!! seriously!!! No wonder folks are concerned about the possibility of a Pandemic!!!
Back to surf,..... Did you take any pics???? doubt it,....Hey,... the stairs will be taken out soon and I will have access to the area.... C- Me!!!
