yes it did help. DID that is. Shshsh from the 'bber, who's from SB, had the best progress with the thief. the problem was the thief never gave us his phone# or would commit to a time & place to meet. we'd give him a phone# to call about arranging something, but he'd never call and now hasn't responded to follow up emails.

i've been using this suit for 3 years now. Really good suit and plenty warm for so-cal winters. $174 is a steal!
but I just upgraded to a 4/3 DryLock. should be arriving any day now

that will probably be the first spot i'll check. hope it's decent size, not blown out, and not breakin' sideways there. haven't surfed a point break wave in a while.
Re: That's a Shame...........

I can't wait for this weekend. I can't believe nobody has started "The Hype Thread" for this swell yet. [image]
I'm kicking around a couple ideas of where I want to go....
-mofo
forecasts are all over the map for this weekend. anywhere from 4' to 10'
i'm not really putting much faith in any particular report. will do the usual, take 3 or 4 boards with me and start at one spot and either work my way north or south depending on what the surf looks like.
Re: Thursday night.....
November 3, 2009 by matt479
Yup. I'm on it as well. Probably the same place you two will be at. [image]
-mofo
i have no idea yet where i'll be. forecasts are all over the map concerning size

Gotta stay entertained during flat spells
I know other people have enjoyed this fall - but I gotta say - I think it has absolutely sucked surfwise.

Yeah, always fun to try new shapes but I just love that Manny and it is BEAT!!
-ecr
hear ya on that board. my zamora speed dialer is a great board. but my first choice if there's a little bit of punch in the waves is to go with my pod-ish tri-fin. going with a duplicate of the manny might be good cause you've got something that Ian can look at first hand to see what you want. always a risk telling a shaper what you want without any reference material.
Re: This morning's surf report...
November 2, 2009 by matt479
Order is not placed yet but I need to replace the Manny. That poor board has been put through the grinder. Most likely going to have Ian Z. copy it. Wouldn't mind getting a new thruster too. The pics from our Nicaragua trip convinced me I need to go shorter on my 'performance boards'. I could see my back foot in front of my fins and lots of drawn out turns instead of tight arcs.
-ecr
also something i noticed on other pre-Nic pics of myself. plus my stance really wasn't that wide and lot of open foam from my front foot to the nose. that's when i decided to start scaling down the length of my shortboards. going from 6'6" down to 6'. easy to do just adjust the width. also gives you a lot of confidence to ride shorter boards on bigger days. i haven't riden my 7'er or 7'6" in years. might want to consider something like a CI pod-ish shape. good alternative to a fish/speed dialer while having that looser thruster feeling. i'm sure Ian could probably shape it.

whassup guys? anybody surf anything over say,,,,, knee high recently?
Been out of the loop for a stretch - Life has been crazy lately but I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Putting a board on order,,, kinda figured out my career dilemma - over a month off work to surf this winter - things are looking up!-ecr
not much surf for me either lately.
cool thinks are looking better on the job front. must be ok if you're ordering a new board? what you getting and who's shaping shape it?
Re: Surfboard Tracker- SBT is what it is called....
November 2, 2009 by matt479
looking at their site couple comments.
this is not a "lojack" product. it does not determine the location of a stolen board. the product could easily be removed and the open space patched. most if not all shops sell used boards on a consignment basis. lot of them also check police reports before accepting used boards to be sold, even play it again sports does this. this product only works in detecting a stolen board if the shops sign up for it too. it related to new boards i would believe most real surf shops have direct relationships with board companies like CI, Rusty, etc, to know they're not receiving a board made in China.
the real benefit looks to be for the small shaper in having a database for his designs. but this day in age with the shaping machine i'm pretty sure lot of these guys already have their templates in softcopy.

I'm getting tired of early high tides.... this is friggin old already.
Well, just a few more days until daylight savings time anyway...then no mo dawn patrols for a few weeks.
Grrr.....
-mofo
look at the tide book for the rest of the year. high tide is pretty much every single morning. summer 1st low tide of the day is at sunrise then it switches around October where high tide is at dawn patrol.

the Superflex are the crap low end Xcel's. not worth buying even at $150 unless you're really broke.
i've one of them from years back. the slick skin breaks and peals apart cause it goes all the way up to the neck. when you're putting it on the slick skin stretchs out due to how high it goes up to the neck. also that suit flushes super bad. it doesn't have as good of taping as the higher prices Xcel's.

October 19, 2009 by matt479
saturday didn't surf too well but was in the water for about 3+ hours in trunks. wore trunks in ventura county in October. In my 20+years of surfing i don't think i've EVER worn trunks surfing that late in the season in ventura county. and it wasn't like i was longboarding either. trunking shortboarding. sunday didn't really consider going to the beach as the swell was pretty dead and i was tired and sunburnt

friggen mofo out there gettin it as i type! sez it is good -real good. the tide is the main reason i'm workin now. i hope it hangs around a bit. i'm mind surfing my spot now[image]
-ecr
he's going to the wrong spot though. i told him the size was dying quick when i was there.
if i'm think what your spot is, it was too stormy and brown water this morning when i checked it.
Re: This morning's surf report...
October 15, 2009 by matt479
damn! I wish I would have seen this yesterday, it would have been 'the straw that broke the camels back' - I was so back and forth last night. The cams look good this AM and the reports from friends said it is going off. I know a relatively fickle spot that loves this angle, interval and the tide will be right at one point today - Doh!!! oh well, afternoon surf will have to do.
-ecr
too much tide this morning. should be better in the afternoon on low tide. beachies were pretty big but just stormy and brown water. i'd recommend going far north. down CL way it's already dying out.

God this morning was weak. I stood there on the point with my coffee for 30 minutes waiting for the tide to come up a little and show something a lil sexy for me.... nada. Nada surf. [image]
No surf this weekend either... sigh... poor peeps that are heading over to the Sacred Craft... all those boards to ooogle over and then nothing to surf.
Hmmmm.... I remember that's the way it was when it was up here... odd.
-mofo
they need to stop having these board shows. the surf is always flat when they hold them.

Howabout this evenings surf report? plenty of nw windswell and sw swell on tap. surfed alone except the windsurfers. good ones were headhigh. should be fun tomorrow.
-ecr
surfed malizoo this afternoon. wow! for a 2' end of summer day the asshole factor was off the charts today. figured i'd take the longboard out to get myself in somewhat a rhythm for tomorrow's NW windswell and get my last SoCal trunks session for 2009 and thinking it'd be a mellow day. boy was i wrong. only caught 2 waves where someone didn't drop in on me. sure it's malibu and drop in's are common place, but on a 2' day? come on! no one but me was giving the guy up and riding an chance. cut a brotha some slack. i'm now SOOOOO ready for cold water and beating NW swell to drive all these kooks home.
Re: This morning's surf report...
September 22, 2009 by matt479
Surf was a fun this morning. I had Matt, and a few others surprise me by showing up bright and early. The waves were "okay", much better than flat, I guess. But wow, where the hell did the crowd come from? The waves were mediocre yet packed like it was going off. I don't get it.
-mofo
don't go too far thinking today was okay. unlike the usual, it went FLATTTTTTTTT about right after you left. it got really bad FLAT. like pretty much nothing worth riding.
the "crowd" was pretty annoying this morning. pretty much all beginners.
guess they too were thinking that the new south swell should have been there?
Re: Sunday surf?
September 14, 2009 by matt479
hahaha - anyone?
-ecr
was halfway decent at the usual winter spot. crowd was kind of an issue as the current out there was running pretty strong so it would drag people into the same spot. break of the jetty was working pretty good. was kind of soft out there. took out my 6'4" and was wishing i had my Speed Dialer. but I had to park WAY the hell away cause of the AA meeting so I didn't feel like running back to my car
saturday was pretty fun too. got some point surf in. also kind of soft, crowded & chopped up but still just good to be out at a winter spot.
Re: Oahu Bound
September 11, 2009 by matt479
Leaving today - still intend on renting on the island and would rather keep the money "in the family" if someone has a recommendation.
-losangeles
could buy a used board at Surf n' Sea in Haleiwa and probably sell it back to them
or check craig's list for a used board?
stoked there should be some surf on the NS right now. wish i was there
Re: Sunday surf?
September 10, 2009 by matt479
It is going to be hilarious Sunday morning with all the heads bobbing around at the favorite winter suspects.
-ecr
if the reports are right
the angle should be pretty good for majority of winter breaks. so hopefully the crowd spreads out. yeah right! also maybe we get some huricanne swell about the same time? that'd hopefully spread the crowd out too.
