Ratboy didn't make it past his heat today at the Coldwater Classic up at steamer lane.. He got way more waves than anybody and they looked lined up when he was dropping in, but for some reason they kept mushing out on him and he couldn't put together a high enough scoring ride..
Do you have any idea how huge and epic it's going to be friday evening and saturday up there?!
Ratboy could dominate his home spot in big conditions..

They might end up at Waddell Creek for the next day or two cause of the small surf.. the high tide has been killing it at the lane, but the low tide evening session today was pretty good. Saturday is going to be huge, they are talking about the possibility of tow-in.
I can't wait for this weekend. I can't believe nobody has started "The Hype Thread" for this swell yet. ![]()
I'm kicking around a couple ideas of where I want to go....

forecasts are all over the map for this weekend. anywhere from 4' to 10'
i'm not really putting much faith in any particular report. will do the usual, take 3 or 4 boards with me and start at one spot and either work my way north or south depending on what the surf looks like.
Well anywhere that can pick up steep NW swell is going to be really big.. but the swell peaks in the afternoon and we may have to deal with some crazy winds so getting the peak of this swell with clean conditions may be a bit tricky. I think the northerly half of so cal is going to get a pretty good amount of west as well, filling in some of the spots blocked by point c or the c. islands.. the southerly half of so cal (specifically parts of OC) will be a bit more spotty depending on island blockage, but I'm sure guessing there will be somesurf filling in everywhere since it is coming in from many different angles, mostly NW and some from the W (though less direct W as you go south)
The mid-day high tides means morning session, spend time with the family, eat, nap, evening session ![]()
So the winds may be an issue, blowing probably 30 mph from the NW out on the open ocean saturday afternoon when the swell is supposed to peak, but we should get some protection as So Cal is a giant cove protected by NW winds.
Medium tide morning and medium to low tide evening.. I have a pretty good idea the spots I'll be surfing this weekend.
i just hope the beachbreaks will remain surf-able.
Too big and everybody (me included) runs for the reefs and points and on weekends the crowds are already an issue.
i'd rather have smaller but consistent :) and just surf the beach outfront
It will be some good size... if you are in the right place. Wow... I just checked out one spot that was claiming 26feet at 17 sec (with a shading for "better sets" that stated 39 feet!!! WTF???) for Saturday afternoon. A very well known spot. Looks like Malzoo will be nipple high at best.
Dude.... 39 foot sets. That sure wouldn't be face hight, would it?
Screw it, somebody turn on the hype machine. ![]()
Hah, it's fun to watch models freak out, but I wouldn't be surprised if that spot picked up some 20+ footers on the biggest sets.
