FREEPORT, Texas—A man from The Woodlands was glad to be back on land Friday morning after he was swept out to sea while surfing in Freeport.
John Baker, 61, drove to Freeport Wednesday morning to catch some waves.
He called his wife around 11:30 a.m., saying he was about to get in the water.
But when his wife didn’t hear from him all day after that, she reported him missing Wednesday night.
As it turns out, strong winds kept Baker from making it back to shore, so he decided to float until he reached a nearby oil rig.
The crew onboard the rig helped him to safety and gave him some food until the Coast Guard arrived.
The Coast Guard said Baker was in good condition, just extremely tired.
