Sept 11-17.
Staying at JW Marriott at the west end of H1. I'm staying way the **** over there because my girlfriend is an employee and gets a completely obscene discount. It's not my scene - fancy rooms with nothing but a private tide pool and a golf course nearby - but it's what I got so I'm trying to make the best of it.
Considering the mega-airline fees for boards (I'm flying American because I have a couple of free tickets coming my way) I figure I'll just find a place to rent a longboard for the week. Anyone recommend someplace that can hook me up? I know I can look it up and be fine, I'm just trying to keep the money in the family. If there's a brother, classmate, or cousin that deserves my business over anyone else, let me know.
I'm not a charger, the mellower the better for me, so if anyone has any recommendations or tips for west or south shore, feel free to give me a discreet heads up.
Anyway, Aloha!
September is a good time. Mellow waves, pokai bay in Waianae and white plains at Barbers Point. Dont leave anything in your car that you don't mind getting stolen.
Lotsa lurkers that pop in here LA. Give this thread some time.
Leaving today - still intend on renting on the island and would rather keep the money "in the family" if someone has a recommendation.

xena any plans on visiting the Old World again anytime soon?
xena - thanks for the note, but I'm headed back home today.
Had an amazing time here. The surf at the beginning of the week was fantastic, mellowing out the last couple of days.
Surfed, snorkeled, kayaked, hiked, swam, ate, smoked, drank, read (Cormac McCarthy), slept and drew. Saw many sea turtles, must be in season or something. Great vacation, and all this after spending a week hiking at drinking at altitude in Telluride. Last couple of weeks have been unbelievable.
zen: i'll be in vegas nov 12-19th for a tahitian dance competition. might be in LA next year in may, i dunno yet.
hey la sorry i missed u, glad you had a great time! hope you got some of that swell it was banging up here.
OK, got a couple of pics, but of course none of me actually surfing. I bought a waterproof digital camera for $220 that was anything but waterproof. the damn thing flooded and fried after about 60 seconds in the water. So these photos are from my nicer "dry" camera.
It was head high to occasional DOH at select spots on the north shore. You probably need to click the pics to see the people on the waves. Coming from a city of umpteen million people, I couldn't believe that many of these waves were left unridden and many spots had no more than just a couple of people on them - and some spots no people at all.
No, I didn't get in the water there - just observed.

Here's a head high set on the south shore that I missed because the "GF" wanted to hike Diamond Head (which I actually enjoyed - don't tell her). Don't worry, I went out at least daily near the hotel - which ended up being in the Vegas of the pacific - Waikiki. Had fun playing the game "whore or eurotrash" on the main drag at night. I swear you can't tell the two apart sometimes.
good score ... thanx for the shots ... hope you got some of those
