Yeah, I wish it was done. I have most of it shaped... it actually came out looking very very good. I just need a little more rocker in the front. I am actually pretty friggin impressed with how it came out. The next step will be drilling out the handle and then the fiberglassing. The crazy part is that I've been thinking... hmmmm... what if I gave it a flex tail and extended out the handboard a little more utilizing some foam and then glass it out? Man, can you picture getting into a nice fat shoulder, giving your fins a few kicks and then get into the wave early and then drop in and hit the bottom turn hard, flexing the handboard (which is long enough to have pressure from your forearm) and getting that sweet speed out of your turn, then shooting back up the face? I think it can be done. I've sanded the rear of the handboard down in the back to give it some flex already. Extending it out with some foam and then glassing it all together should give it some additional structural integrity and well as both surface area and better leverage with mor arm in it.
I'm pretty excited about it. I am "facebook buddies" with Cher @ Pendoflex (Click Me) and I am sending her some ideas and getting her thoughts. I'm doing the same with TFAD & Ian Zamora for their input on the best way to do this. It's kinda funny, I was going into one direction and then realized how cool I could actually make this if I got a little creative.
One mental note I've made so far.. the next one is not going to be made out of solid redwood. That shit is tough to shave down. 
Outside of that man.... really stoked. I took a relatively simple project and made a mountain out of it. Taaada! 
Oh, and the surf this morning was tough... like not really happening. I suited up anyway. I did catch a wave. Almost considered the second one another wave, but I can't. I got one good wave. In 40 minutes.
Maybe after work.... I'm thinking... gotta check the winds. In the morning for sure. Same for Saturday but I will be around the Newport area for a couple hours.
I'll be local if you wanna paddle out on Sunday? Early. Before my family notices I'm gone. And home before football starts.
Oh, and when I'm home before 10 on Sundays that means I'm home in time to get hot pancakes, eggs, and some variation of pig. It's how she gets me to get home so early on Sundays.

I will be out early on Sunday as well so I am sure we will run into each other mofo. I have my lil sister and her b/f coming out around 8ish. Analisa is looking to catch a few as well so the 4 of us will be somewhere that is uncrowded for the girls. Have to be back pretty early, Sunday is when my family meets Analisa's entire family. Da Da Daaaaaaaa. Lates......

surfed malizoo this afternoon. wow! for a 2' end of summer day the asshole factor was off the charts today. figured i'd take the longboard out to get myself in somewhat a rhythm for tomorrow's NW windswell and get my last SoCal trunks session for 2009 and thinking it'd be a mellow day. boy was i wrong. only caught 2 waves where someone didn't drop in on me. sure it's malibu and drop in's are common place, but on a 2' day? come on! no one but me was giving the guy up and riding an chance. cut a brotha some slack. i'm now SOOOOO ready for cold water and beating NW swell to drive all these kooks home.
I'm kickin myself because I have a feeling that it was good this morning and I couldn't make it... damn.
Tomorrow morning for sure...
^^^better than that. NB upper jetties were like a friggin skatepark early this am. HH easily on the sets, peaks and ramps everywhere, calm winds, spittin tubes til the tide slowed it down around 8am......

At least i feel like i am in much better surfing shape after the last several days windswell. caught some decent ones last night but was so frustrated with my board. i have been rotating between two boards and took out the more 'performance' of the two. dug a few rails finishing top turns that really bummed me out as i watched the waves continue peeling down the line. At one point a fleet of commercial fishing boats worked the outer reefs - I counted 17 boats! oh, and i smashed in one of the swallow tails on my manny in the car- bummer. nice night though.
Dude, that fish from Manny has taken a beating,eh? I'm glad I skipped last nigt... the football game was worth it. Wow, what a great first half.
This morning was fun. A LOT of fun. Way more fun than I thought it was going to be. Shoulder high on the better sets for sure. A little mushy so I rode the octafish. I cant wait for winter. The temp dropped, stoked on that. It felt around 62 whch as great. I cant wait for it to get under 60. That will thin out the crowds. 
Hey ECR I got your text too, btw. I'm going to be playing around with the sander tonight and finish up that handboard. Just have the handle to drill out and I will be done. Then I just have glassing to do.
I'll get your sander back this week. What dings you got man? You can work on the tonight over at my place if you want? Bring your kid. It's just me and the kiddo tonight, the wife has class.

I need a replacement for the Manny - it has been abused and i can tell riding it now. lastnight, i slammed the rear door of my car on the tail. crushed in the glass into the foam - DOH! oh wellz. I know 12, through the glass into foam, dings on the board and a busted out finbox - all half assed repaired by me. definitely time to replace it.
God this morning was weak. I stood there on the point with my coffee for 30 minutes waiting for the tide to come up a little and show something a lil sexy for me.... nada. Nada surf.
No surf this weekend either... sigh... poor peeps that are heading over to the Sacred Craft... all those boards to ooogle over and then nothing to surf.
Hmmmm.... I remember that's the way it was when it was up here... odd.

The cams look good this AM and the reports from friends said it is going off. I know a relatively fickle spot that loves this angle, interval and the tide will be right at one point today - Doh!!! oh well, afternoon surf will have to do.

too much tide this morning. should be better in the afternoon on low tide. beachies were pretty big but just stormy and brown water. i'd recommend going far north. down CL way it's already dying out.
