This morning.. eh. I sat and stared for almost an hour. Spot checked up and down the coast. Then went to work early.

think ya may be doing that for another week or so. looks like LOT of wind and not much swell on the horizon until next weekend
Yeah... well.. glad I cleared out the home gym area of my garage. Looks like it will actually see some action for the next week.
Sigh....
No, no, no.... for a newb to drop in and stinkbug on a longboard is waaaaaaaaay easier compared to a newb dropping and stinkbug on a shortboard. By far.
Now, having skills... footwalking skills, balance skills, trimming skills, bowstaff skills, proper hand jive skills (nothing kills a sthe view like a surfer with great line, perfect trim, peeeling down the line looking soooo pretty only to have the hands and arms flailing all around... it kills the whole style thing) ... that takes years and dedication. I have the utmost respect for surfers with those skills. There is a HUGE difference between the two.

true about the newbies on longboards, but I see a lot of guys on shortboards who flail and stick their butt out but aren't really turning or trimming their board. I do have to agree though that shortboarders in general are usually better surfers, meaning their more aware of their surroundings, understand rotation, etc. Lots of kooky folks start out on longboards, I know I did.
I give shortboarders a lot of respect after this winter. When Meanie and I were in Hawaii last Dec. I took one of Xena's 7' CI boards out at 10' Haleiwa. I didn't feel comfortable on that little board at all.
Yesterday I went straight to Sunset because of the ridiculous low tide, and it was clean and rideable, but really small. There was only one guy out who could catch waves, so I joined him. It was actually kind of fun until the wind messed it all up.
I know lots of people that won't surf Sunset, or won't admit they do, but sometimes you have to put your ego away if you want to have any fun.
Come on, don't be embarrassed, you know you want to . . .
surf looks fun on the cams now. peaky glassy fun
Sigh... I'm desperate. I'm going to try and catch something after work.
I have all day off tomorrow and the best spots are suppose to be at best 2-3. I will gladly take that. I just hope... really hope... I mean friggin hope big time, that there will be actual 2 to 3 foot waves.
Sigh.....
passed on the surfing and decided to fish this weekend. took a little bit of time to figure out where and what they were biting on but once i did it was wide open. caught lots of perch with an occassional other species mixed in - had a thresher shark that was just short - doh! hopefully by the end of the week it will be back to surfing.
So... when is it cool to start hyping this weekends swell?

Which weekend?? the 5th,,,,, or 12th!?!![]()
and let's not forget the one on the 26th either.... ![]()
I miss surfing. I really, really tried to catch something on Sunday morning. I couldn't believe how cold the water was. I drove down to SD on Saturday with my family for my nieces 2nd birthday. I brought my board and wetsuit down figuring we had some extra time in the morning before the party and I could surf while my wife and kid go eat breakfast. Nada. Nothing. Zip. Just a cold, grey, windy, chopped up waves kinda morning.
Sunday was just to get wet. I had low expectations. Getting wet was it. The one wave I caught was the bonus.
Damn... I can't believe how much I miss surfing. When was the last time we actually had waves? I mean, even the weekend of the surf craft show the waves were weak. It had to be the week before that, eh? It's been like, over 3 weeks since we've had any decent surf. Wow.
This sucks. Sigh.....
uhhh, last weekend(memorial 3-day) had really fun surf on Sat(modfish in the hood pics) and Sunday. not huge but really fun chest high. look at the models for the 12th - i wasn't being a smartazz - could be a decent shot of south! I am getting excited just for the end of this week.
ECR, I wasn't saying we didn't have ANY swell... it just wasn't like "Oh man, I'm so stoked and jazzed at the swell were having"... it was more like "Oh hey cool... that set was almost chest high" ![]()
Lol, I'm contridicting my last post to winddog about appreciating the moment. LMAO@myself. It's amazing sometimes how I look at the surfing aspect of my life so often so differently than I look at the rest of my life. I notice that I tend to be so much more selfish and demanding when discussing surf than any thing else. Funny.
there BETTER be some decent surf this Friday since my boss will be in Vegas ![]()

EXACTLY my point, lol.
Sigh... we deserve some surf. We've been good. We've been working hard. We need it. C'mon swell!!! You can do it! ![]()
session tonight was a little bit o bummer. one or two decent waves. it was weird = decent swell, good conditions but just none of the waves running. checked a few spots too. plus i tried the modfish as a quad(stiffer) and the waves just didn't have it.
Grrrrr... one of those mornings. My first wave was weak. Drop in, one pump, got flat, end. Second wave, drop, pump, section shut down by skinny, long hair guy with blue board. Okay... third wave, "buddy" drops in on me... ahhh good times. Third wave, nice wave, perfect shape, I'm in perfect spot and overgunned Sally decides she wants to flail in front of me... pissed... silently fumming to myself. Sigh... paddle back over a little deeper, behind my friends... I see a nice one lining up... go to make the drop and another "buddy" yells "Party Wave!" and drops in infront of me with another buddy dropping in infront of him. They all laugh at each other and think it's just so funny and life is great and isn't this all so much fun! ![]()
I wanted to punch somebody. Badly. Four waves in a row somebody dropped in on me. I was bitter. So you know what I did?
Nothing.
It was after I was burned that the tide started screwing with things and it just shut down. I practically had to paddle in.
I'm going to start surfing with a speargun in hand.
Okay... so this morning has been forgotten about. I'm gonna paddle out after work.
ECR, Matt987h2by7? Anybody?
yeah mofo - your morning surf sounds like me the last time i surfed with you! no sense getting worked up over small shitty mushy
gonna go right after work, but going to a secret spot(lol). plan on being in the water by 3:30. maybe we'll catch up this weekend?
