This morning was a bummer. Wound up looking, staring, wishing, then driving back home.
Wifey was happy to see me.
Sigh... we need surf. Haven't had a good time surfing since last Sunday at the AB3.
snaking? No way man. You were kookin every wave so why let them go to waste? ![]()
Nah I hope to shake hands with you next weekend man. It as been too long since we paddled out last.
Porto was a lot of fun after the tide finally started to drain out. Decided to deal with the bump instead of the crowds. Paddled out after everyone left and had a blast dropping into shoulder high closeouts. After 4 hours, I was spent and sunburnt....I wear 50 spf and still get red...anyway. If the wind stays off of it, it might be a two session day today. Thank god for TiVo! I can catch the final four later on.
It still looks good right now...and the crowds are gone...sooooo, if your reading this today and you're close...GO!
Will, I hope to see you out there too. Should be a good time!
Smaller than yesterday. Smaller crowd. Cleaner waves and water. Kind of felt like summer, except for the ass cold water.
Great day for the beach, that is for sure.
Session 2 in the pm. Winds backed off and we had a little glass off going on. High tide was keeping things slow, which was good, because I had way too much to drink :)
I called in sick today and scored some fun nice shaped waves at Newport this morning. It's been forever since I've surfed in the late morning - Nice! The Mandala is taking me sooo long to get wired but it's feeling better time I take it out. It's 'drawbacks' don't outweigh the positives so far.
I need to do this more often...
Been lurking hard for a while.... Surfed N O.C. mid-day, semi-glassy, un-crowded, fun lefts. Water was almost trunk-able due to the nice, warm, sun. Matter of fact a couple of guy's were trunking it. Sweating in my 3 mil. Felt like summer time.
I had a ton of fun today. That is all.

I know how you feel exactly - i didn't get it for a long time. I have some weird experiences on mine from i cant believe it good to i cant believe it bad. that said, i am really grateful for what the board has given me. still in solid shape afters years of riding. mines the board in the pic on mofo reef thread.
I think it has to do with the way he shapes the bottom concaves in the board. At least that's my suspicion with the double wing quad. From what I understand, the curves don't go straight from nose to tail but rather from the rail to in between the fins. This makes it more lively coming off the top and bottom (which I've experience with the right wave) but slower on take offs and just going straight down the line (bad news for mushy waves imo). I had a few today where my bottoms turns felt incredible and hitting the lip felt great (i'm not hitting high enough tho with this board... strange, but something im working on). Cutbacks when I have some speed going feel incredible - it's sooo easy to get them all the way around. Bottom turns on my backside feel great too.
After years of riding the Zippi, I think I just need to learn to surf more top to bottom ALWAYS. This board hates drawing straight lines from what I can tell. It may be pilot error but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to change my style of surfing a little to make this board really work. I'm not complaining - I think it'll do nothing but good for my surfing. It's just a little frustrating at this point since I'm sorta kooking waves I would normally be having my way with. I now bring both boards with me if I'm not sure about the conditions.
Rezzin, are you going to be able to make it this weekend? It would be fun to surf with ya. ![]()
Rez that zippi still sounds really user friendly though!
surfed this reef by myself tonight. really shallow, like hit your fingers on rocks when paddling shallow but perfect and sheet glass. rarely surfed but visible from PCH. couple of guys came out but all left after they saw where ya had to sit and take off. lefts were like a point, rights were backdoor barrels back into the reef. good stuff. killer spring so far.

Every single one of my friends that surf - yes, all 4 of them - have bought Zippi's after trying one. They all LOVE them. 'user friendly' is definitely a good term to describe them. I'll always love Zippi's.

Is there a convergence or something going on? Sorry if I missed the post - I don't keep up around here as much as I should. I'd love to surf with you guys one of these days but with all that's going on with me - time is very limited. I'm definitely a weekend warrior at best now.
Porto last night was kinda crappy. Tide came up a lot faster than I thought it would. The wind was on it a lot more than I thought it would. The shape was terrible. BUT it did rain and I do love surfing in the rain. This morning was no better....there is swell in the water, but the shape is just terrible.

sorry, but are you crazy? that area after a rain? i'd never get in the water down there after a rain
:) I've been out in the pooo for so long that my body can fight off whatever is out there. I'll get the occasional throat or ear problem after a good rain, but it always goes away after a day. Maybe, I'm just playing russian roulette?
Dirty water = less people
I'm a garbage pale kid. Anyone remember them?
Rezzin, yup... it should work for you then 'cause it's on the weekend! ![]()
Saturday afternoon (2pm) to Sunday late morning, Cardiff Reef, San Elijo campsite #72.
A bunch of us surfing, drinking beers, bbqing, bocce ball & horseshoes. Maybe some cards if a few of you linger around to play.
Campfires... my 4 year old is so looking forward to Smores. ![]()
My little girl was so excited last night... "Daddy, I love camping. When it gets dark and if we see any bad animals you will get them, right? Because your a big and strong Daddy"
Little daughters can be such an ego boost.
I surfed El Porto after a day of rain, and the water just wreaked. There were only two of out, my est friend and myself. 24 hours later i show up for work at a well known italian restaurant in BH and end up puking my guts out in the bathroom!
I ALMOST got fired. Had I actually entered the kitchen or started my shift the boss would have had to close the restaurant for the day.
As for this morning's surf report in Lugano, Switzerland it is a beautiful day, but completely flat.
